Light Tester

This device is used to quickly determine if a light leaks without removing the light from the niche.

The dome attaches to the light using a suction cup on the end of a threaded rod that extends through the dome. A flexible gasket around the perimeter of the dome is tightened against the pool wall by means of a wingnut on the threaded rod. A hole at the base of the hollow threaded rod is the only pathway from the outside of the dome to the isolated light. Therefore, any water that escapes from the pool through the light must flow through this opening.

Isolating the light in this way allows the user to quickly determine if the light is leaking by simply squirting a small amount of dye into the plastic tube attached to the end of the hollow center rod and watching to see if it gets drawn into the dome. If there is a leak in the light the user will see the dye move through the clear tube, if there is no leak the dye will stay in place.
